CRUISING TO VICTORY
Victory to the London Cruisers men’s basketball team in the European gay games 2000 in Zurich last weekend.
The London Cruisers beat the Paris Boys 55 — 50 in a nail biting final that went into three overtime periods. At the end the exhausted but ecstatic players brought home well-deserved gold medals. Winning the whole event was all the more remarkable as these were the first games that the year old team has played in. The men’s Team Captain Jordi Ibars commented:
" We didn’t expect to win — it was such an incredible moment especially after all our hard work"
In addition to the men’s team, 2 women’s teams entered the competition with one achieving 5th place out of the overall 24 participating female teams. Sponsorship by Soho Gyms enabled both the men’s & women’s teams to wear a unifying kit that stood them apart from the rest. For those of you who missed the Eurogames, all of the Cruisers can next be seen in action at the UK Gay Sports Festival 30th July in Waltham Forest, London.
